How to sell your wines at auction

If you are interested in selling wine online, Tankersley Wine Brokers is continuously accepting entries for our upcoming wine auctions. We offer expert wine valuations and can help direct you to the most effective way to deliver your wines to us from within Ireland and across Europe.

1. REGISTER AN ACCOUNT

Registering an account with Tankersley Wine Brokers is free and grants you lifetime access to buy and sell wine online in our frequent auctions. 

2. GET YOUR BOTTLES TO US

We simplify the process of getting your bottles to us. Our expert Team is ready to assist you; just provide a few simple details by filling in this form

When packing your bottles for delivery or collection, include a completed copy of our Sender Form to ensure smooth processing.

3. AUCTION

Upon receipt of your wine, we will verify the quality, condition, and authenticity of the bottles. If they meet our standards, they will be listed in an upcoming auction. You can also specify if you would like a reserve price applied (minimum €100). We will take photographs, create accurate lot descriptions, and start promoting your bottles to our global audience of wine enthusiasts.

4. PAYMENT TERMS

If your wine successfully sells, payment is issued to the seller within 21 days of the auction’s close.

If a reserve is placed on a lot and it does not sell, we can either relist it in a subsequent auction (subject to fees) or arrange for its return to you (subject to delivery charge).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does an online wine auction work?
Sellers deliver bottles they wish to consign to our office in Ireland. Once authenticated, these bottles are listed on our website in an upcoming auction group. We host wine auctions bi-monthly, allowing registered users to place bids on their chosen lots. At auction close, the highest bidder is notified, and payment is requested. The seller receives payment within 21 working days from the auction’s end. For more details, please see the Buying and Selling pages on our website.

How do I sell my wine?
To consign your wine for auction, please visit the Selling page on our website. You’ll need a user account to sell, so please register if you haven’t already done so.

What does it cost to list an item?

  • Selling Commission: 10%
  • Listing Fee: €12 per lot
  • Reserve Fee: €18 per lot
  • Mixed-Case Fee: €10 per lot

Please note VAT (at the current rate of 23%) is applicable on the commission and all listing fees. VAT is not applicable to the hammer price of the wine.

How do I get my wine to Tankersley Wine Brokers?
Please email us on info@tankersleywine.com, and we will assist you in getting your bottles to auction.

When does an auction end?
Auction periods are displayed on the Buying and Selling pages of our website. Auctions end at 7 PM (Irish Standard Time) on the final day of the auction period. Any bidding activity at 7 PM will extend the entire auction by a further 2 minutes. The auction concludes when there’s no further bidding activity within a two-minute period after 7 PM.

How many bottles can I submit?
You may submit any number of bottles. However, we reserve the right to restrict volumes of similar wines in each auction, especially mature bottles from a single seller.

How quickly do I get paid?
Sellers are paid within 21 business days from the end of an auction, contingent upon the buyer having paid us. Payments are made by direct bank transfer.

What if my wine fails to achieve its reserve?
If your wine does not meet the reserve price, we can relist it in a future auction or arrange to have the bottles returned to you. Listing and reserve fees still apply.

How do I get a wine valuation?
Tankersley Wine Brokers has extensive experience in the wine trade and can provide valuations based on recent auction and market prices. For a valuation, email info@tankersleywine.com or call +353 (0)1 234 5678. A photograph of the items may be required. We may ask for receipts or invoices to show provenance for the wines.

Can you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship to many countries worldwide. If your shipping area is not automatically detected please contact us for options. 

Can I collect my winning lots in person?
Yes, collections are possible by appointment. Please visit our website for more information on our collection services.

How long does it take to receive my wine?
We aim to dispatch your purchases within 2 working days of payment receipt. Delivery times vary by destination, typically between 1 and 10 working days.

Do I have to pay VAT?
VAT is not charged on the hammer price of wines. However, all fees and surcharges are subject to VAT; delivery fees within the EU include VAT. Non-EU customers do not pay VAT if the goods are shipped outside the EU.

What does Loss & Breakage Assurance cover?
This optional coverage protects against total breakage or loss of wines in transit due to human negligence. It does not cover leakage due to natural deterioration of closure materials.

Can I cancel my bid?
Confirmed bids are legally binding and cannot be cancelled. We encourage bidders to carefully review the lot description and photographs before bidding. If a mistake occurs, contact us immediately to discuss potential adjustments.
